Today marks a pivotal step in our journey to confront the global housing crisis as Hewsan Pang steps into the role of New Story's Chief Operating Officer.

Hewsan brings exceptional real estate development expertise and impact sector experience that will accelerate our market-based solutions to make homeownership possible for underserved families.

Building on a Solid Foundation

As our vice president of strategic initiatives, Hewsan has already been instrumental in developing strategies that drive our long-term growth. Most notably, he led the structuring of New Story Capital — our investment division responsible for attracting capital to multiply our impact.

"The housing crisis requires innovative thinking that bridges impact with market forces," Hewsan shares. "What excites me most is that we're empowering families to break the cycle of poverty through asset ownership."

A Career Bridging Profit and Purpose

Hewsan's 15-year career spans both private sector innovation and social impact. At Common Living, a proptech startup, he drove significant revenue growth as managing director. Previously at Greystar, he managed a $750 million portfolio of major housing development projects in the Bay Area.

His impact experience includes five years at One Acre Fund in Rwanda, where he helped drive remarkable organizational growth as director of operations, overseeing 750+ employees during a period of rapid expansion from $5 million to $70 million in annual revenue.

"What sets Hewsan apart is his ability to think at multiple altitudes," says Brett Hagler, New Story's CEO and co-founder. "He can see the big picture of how market forces can transform the housing crisis, then operationalize solutions that work for families on the ground."

Empowering Families from the Ground Up

As COO, Hewsan will bring operational excellence to our land-first approach, which transforms unutilized land into thriving communities while helping families build generational wealth.

This approach has already reduced housing development timelines from 15 years to just 2 years for families in Mexico. By developing land, building families' creditworthiness, and unlocking home financing opportunities, we're tackling the root causes of the housing crisis.

Building the Future Together

As we welcome Hewsan to this new role, we remain grateful to our supporters who make this work possible. Together, we're confronting the global housing crisis with solutions that empower families to write new stories for generations to come.

There's no place like home — and with Hewsan's leadership, we'll help more families experience this truth firsthand.
